Q: Is There a statewide Alaska hotel tax?

No, there is no statewide Alaska hotel tax. However, most communities impose their own local bed (hotel/hospitality) taxes, usually around 7 or 8 percent of the cost of your room. Some lodgings do include that tax in their rates but unless they explicitly say so, expect the tax to show up as an extra charge on top of the quoted rate.

While we’re on the subject of taxes, there is no state sales tax, and there is currently no sales tax in the largest municipality (Anchorage). However, many smaller communities do impose their own sales taxes.
